A recently conducted survey in Finland to Finnish IT decision makers concludes that, nearly 90 percent of corporations IT- heads feel it is important for acquisition of global cloud services to be controlled by IT. 57 percent see a lack of cloud know-how within their own organizations, and over half would prefer to purchase global cloud services through the support of a local partner.
Our Cloud services acquisition 2015 – survey was carried out during March-April 2015, 74 IT-head of Finnish companies employing over 50 were surveyed.
“We examined IT-head experiences and views on purchasing cloud services. Nearly six out of ten would like to increasingly rely on local, domestic cloud partners when purchasing global cloud services. IT-departments do not have sufficient expertise in cloud purchasing, and many have made wrong decisions. Over half make purchasing decisions based on information found online.” says Pilvi founder Lassi Virtanen. ”The best means of acquisition of cloud services is seen as acquiring through the support of a local partner, while maintaining self-service and full private control.”
61 percent of IT-heads feel a lack of personal support to be a challenge. While cloud services pricing schemes are seen as complex by 63.5 percent of respondents, and nearly a third have experienced this often or ongoing. Every fifth respondent has identified the need for an internal broker within their own organization.
”The need to act as an internal cloud services distributor, or broker, has yet to have been identified by data admins even though they see the purchasing without the knowledge of IT-departments as a problem. The results support the view that choosing the right cloud services for a company’s needs is not easy. There are a vast number of cloud services readily available and comparing them requires distinct expertise. Personal cloud knowledge related deficiencies have been identified in companies.” says Virtanen.
Around 70 percent of respondents lacked a current cloud strategy within their organization.
”In corporations of over 50 employees, nearly 6 out of 10 utilize public cloud services alongside private clouds. Cost-effective and flexible IT – environments increasingly include global as well as local cloud services.” says Virtanen. ”Every fourth respondent would like to invest in private clouds while slightly over 10% do not indent to take advantage of the cloud at all. I believe the role of the private cloud to decrease while companies begin taking advantage of global cloud services.”
